Turck presents his Namur sensor with SIL2 certification and Atex approval for use in Ex areas. The inductive proximity switches with terminal compartment can be connected in a vibration-proof manner using removable screw or spring-loaded terminals. This makes replacement considerably easier in the event of service. The WDTC Namur sensors also offer maximum degrees of freedom and switching distances as a wash-down variant.

By simply turning the cover, the user can choose between a straight or a round 90 degree angled cable outlet Select. That Cables from the Namur sensor is inserted into the terminal compartment cover via a standard M16 screw connection.

Inductive Namur sensor with light emitting diodes

light-emitting diodes in the terminal room provide on-site information about the switching status of the NamurSensors. The monitoring function for wire breakage and short circuit detection also helps to increase system availability. Even the addition of the most aggressive media cannot harm the sensor housing made of V4A steel. With degrees of protection IP68 and IP69K and a temperature range from -40 ° to +100 ° C, the sensors are also suitable for extremely harsh environments. The entire inductive sensor with terminal compartment is FDA-compliant.

Offshore application at the Streicher Group

The Streicher Group, based in Deggendorf in Lower Bavaria, is building Deep drilling rigs for the exploration and production of natural gas, crude oil and geothermal energy as well as horizontal drilling rigs for the trenchless laying of pipelines.

After Streicher Bohranlagentechnik had developed and built exclusively onshore systems for a long time, planning and the started almost two years ago Construction of the first offshore solution. The special thing about the concept of a Streicher offshore system is the modularity and the maximum weight of eleven tons per module. In this way, the cranes on the drilling platforms can safely lift the modules onto the platform using their own power.

Streicher uses inductive sensors from Turck to reliably record the end positions of the many moving elements on the derrick. Around 60 sensors are installed in this system. The rectangular proximity switches have an increased switching distance of 20 mm on steel targets. The Namur sensors used are approved for Atex Category II 2 G, Ex-Zone 1. They also meet the SIL2 criteria in accordance with IEC 61508. Thanks to their terminal compartment, the sensors can also be conveniently installed.

Configuration software for IO-Link sensors from IFM Electronic

Turck has also proven itself as a Solution partners profiled. In order to meet the SIL3 requirements, two SIL2 sensors had to be operated in parallel at some points on the drilling rig for a position query and evaluated redundantly via a safety PLC. Given the limited space available in such systems, the sensors had to be mounted close together. Otherwise this is problematic in principle with inductive sensors because they influence each other. Turck has developed a variant with an offset oscillator frequency for this purpose.
