Handling system for 6 processing steps in the smallest of spaces

09.07.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX | In the Sensors The individual parts must be supplied quickly to production. Then they are in six steps like pressing, screws or Glue assembled. IEF Werner has developed an 18-axis positioning system for this application. The handling system feeds the components to the sensor. There was only little space available in the given machine layout. The choice therefore fell on direct drive. It allows several carriages to be moved on one axis to save space.

“The required handling system should, for example, be housed in a cell specified by the customer,” reports Andrew Hirt, Sales representative in the field of linear axes at IEF-Werner. First, the developers planned an independent XYZ handling for each station.

Handling robots for efficient forklift add-on parts production

“The original handling concept called for six separate 3-axis systems based on spindle drives,” remembers Mr. Hirt. But this solution would have been too large, especially in the material flow direction of the X-axis. The development engineers came up with another idea: with one Direct drive As an X-axis, the required six slides could be accommodated on just one axis base body. The handling technology became significantly more compact. The mechanical engineering system fit into the specified cell without making handling less precise.

The X-axis of the handling system

Overall, the positioning system received 18 axes. In the X-axis a Linear unit of the Euroline series. The ready-to-install system contains an iron Linear motor and an optical absolute value measuring system. This means that referencing is unnecessary. The repeatability is ±5 µm, the speed is up to 5 m/s, and the stroke of the linear unit is 2457 mm.

Structure of the Y and Z axes

For the Y and Z axes were Spindle axes from the Profiline series. “The spindle-driven linear rails with recirculating ball units are very suitable for applications for the precise handling of small parts,” explains Andreas Hirt. Since the customer is a Siemens steering IEF-Werner also equipped the spindle drives with Siemens motors.

The connection of the linear motor euroline was connected to the specified components of the controller via appropriate connectioncables ensured. IEF-Werner doesn't just sell its own solutions Engines, but sets also third-party devices one if that is desired. “In order to achieve the safety level required by the customer with the system, the linear motor was also equipped with a special Absolute Encoder which allows operation for safely limited speeds ”, says Andreas Hirt.

For maximum flexibility of the axis system and the utilization of the existing hub, the developers did not rely on it energy chains. “We would have had to put them on the sides of the stations. That would have restricted freedom of movement and taken up unnecessary space,” comments Andreas Hirt. That's why the cables would be central discharged upwards.

Same structure of the individual stations

“Every station in the handling system is set up the same way. That has a positive effect on the Construction effort for the handling systems, ”explains Mr. Hirt. Depending on the processing step, the components are fed individually to the stations and assembled there to form assemblies. A cover is glued on at the last station.

The travel range per station is 150 x 510 x 80 mm. The Travel times for the various processing operations are 4 to 8 s. The mass to be moved on the Z-axis is 5 kg. A camera system controls the quality of the individual processing steps. “With the 18-axis handling system, we have implemented six handling processes in a very small space, which can be carried out quickly and precisely,” says Andreas Hirt, pleased with the result of the automation.

Positioning system with quiet knob drive and backlash

December 19.12.2019, XNUMX | For precise, low-noise travel paths Bahr modular technology is now offering its ML series positioning systems in the new MLN 60(S) version with studded belt drive. The self-guiding 30 mm wide drive belt is made of abrasion-resistant polyurethane, was manufactured with reinforcing steel cord tension strands and ensures low-wear operation with constant belt tension.

The new Drive unit with offset knobs eliminates the need for flanges and minimizes running noise thanks to virtually vibration-free transitions. A high level of tracking stability is achieved thanks to the harmonious engagement behavior of the knob arrangement that compensates for the backlash. This enables particularly precise positioning of the guide carriage in both directions.

Positioning system with adjustable castors

The guide carriage is integrated using four easily adjustable rollers along the guide shaft procedure. With this drive and guidance concept, the positioning systems achieve a repeat accuracy of ±0,1 mm when positioning. For installation in any installation position, Bahr also supplies the ML positioning units in the MLZ model variant with a steel mesh-reinforced HTD guided in the profile Timing belts.

Coupling claws for connecting all common motors as well as the easily accessible tensioning device are attached on both sides of the deflections of toothed or knobbed belts. The profiles can be easily combined with other linear axes via T-slots to form complex system structures.

Closed positioning systems with integrated linear motor

22.11.2018 | Bahr modular technology has expanded its product portfolio to include closed linear motor axes from the DSM 160 P and 200 P series. The systems, which are equipped with two internal rail guides, enable travel speeds of up to 8 m/s and are specified to accommodate higher moments.

The drive unit is a linear one that is completely integrated into the axle body three-phasesynchronous motor. The rotor has a three-phase winding as its primary part, and the raceway consists of permanent magnets installed in the bottom of the axle body. A full-surface cover of the guide profile minimizes particle escape, so that these units, which have been tested for cleanroom suitability, are also suitable for hygienically sensitive applications in accordance with ISO 4.

Linear motor axes with roller or rail guides

In addition, the manufacturer offers linear motor axes with roller or rail guide Available in three different sizes with a width of 120, 160 and 200 mm. The DLM series with two guides consisting of 10 or 12 rollers each is designed for travel speeds of 4 to 6 m/s with an accuracy of ±0,05 mm for travel distances of up to 4000 mm and achieves a repeat accuracy of ±0,05 mm.

Put together energy chains optimally for clean room technology

There can be several on a leadership profile guide carriage can be moved independently of each other with high precision and speed. Due to the magnetic attraction, the force between the primary and secondary parts can be used as a mechanical preload for the bearing, even in a de-energized state. All directly driven linear axes are available in freely selectable lengths up to 6000 mm. Standardized connecting grooves in the profiles enable portal axes of any dimension to be set up quickly.

Precision positioning systems for automation and mechanical engineering

In-house developed integrated linear motors are used, which are adapted to the customer's specific requirements. This has resulted in a portfolio of systems of different sizes and linear motors of varying power.

Depending on the tightness requirements, it has adequate solutions for the Cover the carriage guide. The manufacturer develops tailor-made systems for requirements that cannot be met with these high-quality standard components. These high-precision positioning solutions are used in customer applications with particularly high demands on the quality and/or availability of processing machines.

Linear and rotational Direct Drives offer significant advantages when operating sophisticated positioning systems. They deliver high speeds and acceleration values. They also require little maintenance, ensure a very long service life and have the best properties in terms of synchronization and positioning accuracy.

Hygienic positioning axes with stainless steel coating

10.06.2015 | Bahr modular technology offers his linear axes also with hygienic stainless steel coating. In many production areas in the pharmaceutical and food industries, process-related machine and system parts must be made from easy-to-clean, scratch- and abrasion-resistant materials that do not provide any basis for bacteria to adhere. Stainless steel meets these requirements optimally.

Development of a special process

However, since appropriate casing of positioning axes is difficult due to their geometry, there has so far been no satisfactory, economical solution on the market. The attempt by manufacturers to glue the stainless steel sheets onto the profiles also proved to be unsustainable in the literal sense: different thermal expansions of the profiles and the glued sheets put strain on the contact points and led to rapid replacement. The new approach is based on the development of a special process to cover the aluminum guide profiles of its linear axes with stainless steel sheet.

In which patentedIn this process, a machine specially designed for this purpose bends the stainless steel sheets precisely around the profiles. The sheet metal edges are bent around the profile wall of the slide guide slot and snapped into undercuts inside the profile with a reliable tight fit.

Compact and powerful actuator

Sep 27.09.2010, 23 | The LAXNUMX adjustment drive is small, compact and yet powerful linak. With a width of only 43 mm, it is suitable for installation in applications with difficult installation situations. The installation dimension in length is 110 mm plus the stroke length. Despite its compact dimensions, the drive impresses with its power. Depending on the equipment variant, the LA23 achieves up to 2500 N in both compression and tension. The stroke length can vary between 20 and 300 mm.

In many applications such as the adjustment of ventilation flaps in Buildings The noise generated by the installed adjustment drives plays an important role. The LA23 is particularly quiet in operation and also very light. Another special feature is the integration of the replaceable cable.

The Plug-in connection the connection can be madecable simply replace it without removing the entire drive. Or reversed can be in one Cable channel Installed cables remain in the application if a drive needs to be replaced. Especially in repair or Service case this saves a lot of time. The Plug is integrated into the housing to save space. Another argument for installing the LA23 in applications with difficult space conditions.

The LA23 is splash-proof and achieves protection class IPX4. Depending on the equipment variant, the rear mount is made of plastic or metal. The drive is available in two color variants.

Actuator for automatic format adjustment

Aug 20.08.2010, XNUMX | In order to ensure shorter delivery times in various industries such as tool making, even with decreasing batch sizes, many manufacturing companies are increasingly having to convert their production machines:

Spindles have to be adjusted, stops moved and sensors positioned. This requires machines with automatic format adjustment. The actuator MSBA from Baumer solves this task in a particularly space-saving manner, because with a diameter of only 42 mm it is the smallest in its class.

It consists of Gear Motor, position controller and CANopen Interface. It reaches a new goal reliably and quickly. The dynamic overload protection through speed limitation (I2t control) protects against overload. Thanks to the absolute multiturn position detection, there is no need for reference switches and movements. Even if it is moved without power, the position is not lost.

The digital ones Hardware inputs can be freely programmed, for example to start positioning manually in service mode. Additional functions such as current limitation and intelligent blockage management enable the machine manufacturer to make the system safer and more efficient.
