60th anniversary of Siko GmbH

05.04.2023 | In 2023, Siko GmbH celebrates its 60th company anniversary. The specialist for sensors and positioning systems suitable for Industry 4.0 Headquarters in Buchenbach offers angle measuring systems, length measuring systems and positioning systems for industrial applications such as mechanical engineering. The success of the company is based on the company history, the willingness to think 'out of the box' and to implement innovative projects at the right time.

The company founder Günther Wandres decided in 1963 to become self-employed when selling a drive technology company, which he had managed to date. He took over a small portfolio of handwheels with position displays from this company, which were primarily used to control the speed of infinitely variable gearboxes were used. Construction orders and an industrial agency for geared motors were also taken on. The name Siko derives from Ssouthern german Iindustry Kontor Dr. Ing. G. Wandres.

The 70's to the 90's

In 1971, the company moved into the production site in Buchenbach in the Black Forest, which is the headquarters today. The product portfolio was expanded from the mid-1970s: after the success of the mechanical position indicators, digital position indicators made this possible accurate to 0,1 mm for the first timee reading. The development of electronic measuring systems for displacement and angle measurement can be found in the first geared potentiometers at the end of the 1970s or the first optoelectronic hollow shaft encoder in 1982.

Multifunctional switchgear series for the bulk goods industry

In 1980, global development began with the founding of a Subsidiary in the United States. At the beginning of the 1990s, linear measuring systems were added to the product range under the management of Horst Wandres, the youngest son of the Siko founder. In addition to draw-wire displacement transducers, linear measuring systems with the magnetic measuring principle in particular advanced to become the segment with the highest sales. Horst Wandres was born in 1996 by his sister Ursula Wandres supported as HR manager. Since then, Ms. Wandres has played a key role in shaping and shaping the family character of the company.

Age of Automation

The age of automation began in 2001 with the launch of the product division positioning. From then on, compact drives for automated axis adjustment made it possible to implement Industry 4.0-compatible sensors and positioning systems.

In 2001 became the next Subsidiary in Italy founded. In 2005, due to the industry-wide relocation of European production facilities to Asia, a subsidiary was opened in Shanghai. 2008 was used for the development and manufacture of the Magline Encoder opened a subsidiary in Switzerland. Thanks to the successful development of the Chinese market, the jubilarian opened another sales office in Singapore in 50 on the occasion of the company's 2013th anniversary.

set the course for the future

Siko Sven WischnewskiIn the meantime, Siko has expanded with three business areas and the new German production and administration site in Bad Krozingen positioned for the future. focus industries are the 'Mobile Automation' with robust sensors for rough operating conditions of mobile machines. 'Changeover Solutions' positioning systems for mechanical engineering in the packaging, pharmaceutical and woodworking industries as well as the 'Magline Motorfeedback' encoder for drive technology such as Linear motoren, torque motors and Robotic.

The managing director who has been in office since 2014 Sven Wischnewski is largely responsible for setting the course in recent years. "I would particularly like to emphasize that the growing success of the company is based on the commitment of the employees, who have contributed to the further development of the company in many different ways over the years. The result is innovative products that reflect the ongoing digitization of industrial production into account," says Sven Wischnewski. The Wandres family is no longer active in the operative business, but is still active in the background as a shareholder.

Cooperation with Sensortechnik Wiedemann

13.07.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX | Sensor technology Wiedemann (STW) and Siko will cooperate in the future in the field of Mobile work machines. The companies want to develop joint solutions based on their individual strengths. By working together, users benefit from complete systems from Measurement Technology, Automation and cloud-based concepts.

The strategic partnership expands that already long-term cooperation. Siko is a manufacturer of robust measurement technology for a wide variety of dimensional and mechanical measurement tasks such as length measurement, angle measurement and speed measurement.

Sensor technology Wiedemann offers for the mobile work machines Controllers, sensors, human-machine interfaces, solutions for networking, data management and Connection to the cloud.

Eco-system concept for mobile work machines

Pressure sensor cable encoderIn terms of sales, the cooperation partners see the marketing of their components for the mobile work machine such as excavators or combine harvesters based on the Eco system concept in focus. They have also planned joint development projects.

This is intended to bundle the know-how of both companies so that innovations with high customer benefits emerge. The expansion of a Modular system for sensors for mobile hydraulics with new and expanded functionalities as well as the provision of functionally safe systems are examples.

“With this partnership, we are bundling the competencies of the two companies and creating the basis for optimal collaboration as a basis for groundbreaking project and customer solutions. “We see great shared opportunities here, especially in the areas of position sensors, digitalization and automation,” commented Mathias Roth, Head of the Mobile Automation division at Siko.

“We look forward to working even closer with Siko. Our broad portfolio, together with Siko solutions, offers our customers worldwide access to integrated solutions that make system integration much easier, ”says Hans Wiedemann, Director Channel Partner Management Sensor Technology Wiedemann.

Siko GmbH puts new plant in Bad Krozingen into operation

14.05.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX | the Siko GmbH recently has another location in Bad Krozingen, Black Forest, put into operation. The manufacturer of sensors and positioning systems has thus achieved another milestone in its 50-year company history. The new plant is busy at the start 70 employees about 30 km away from the traditional company headquarters in Buchenbach.

After the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new building at the end of March 2019, construction took a little over a year to complete. “If you consider that our electronics manufacturing moved step by step to our new plant at the end of 2019 and quickly started production, we can be very satisfied with the overall duration of the new building despite the construction boom in 2019 and the corona crisis in 2020, ”says managing director Sven Wischnewski.

On 5000 m² usable area the production of electronic devices as well as sales and marketing are located in Bad Krozingen. The investment volume including machines and building equipment was 13 million euros. The medium-sized company is committed to local production in Germany and to its loyal and long-standing workforce from the region. Siko employs around 240 people worldwide, spread across seven locations.

From now on three production plants

Siko Bad KrozingenThe company now manufactures in the three plants Bad Krozingen, Buchenbach and Cham in Switzerland for global companies from mechanical engineering and industry. Sensors, Drive Technology and the known position indicators have become indispensable, for example, on production machines for efficient position settings and production automation. With special safety-certified sensors, Siko also provides increased safety for people and machines in safety-critical working conditions.

“The new and modern plant in Bad Krozingen was a necessary and correct step for the future of Siko GmbH. Our latest products are not only innovative, but also important in realizing the Industry 4.0 Manufacturing and Automationindustrial processes. So areas that are steadily gaining in importance and growing. The Bad Krozingen location gives us and our workforce the opportunity to grow with the markets that are relevant to us and to manufacture and market innovative products that set future market impulses ”.
