Circuit breaker significantly reduces power consumption and maintenance  

18.01.2022:  The Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in Tokyo was awarded the R&D 100 Awards 2021 for her open circuit breaker World Super AE V Series C-Class awarded. The switch protects low-voltage switchgear of factories and buildings. 

The industry's first electromagnetic operating mechanism of the World Super AE V Series C Class Air Circuit Breakers reduces maintenance costs and energy consumption. A new High performance electromagnet uses conical and magnetic locking structures in its moving iron core. Conical means that a movable and fixed iron core face each other, tending to improve the attraction force. With magnetic locking, the moving core is held in position until the current in the coil has increased sufficiently. This improves overall strength. This industry first electromagnetic operating mechanism among air circuit breakers requires only the same amount of power as a motorized control. The use of electromagnetism instead of a spring for the operating mechanism reduces the number of components 46% and the maintenance effort 30% compared to conventional actuation mechanisms using a motor and spring. This improves the ease of maintenance. Not having to tension the spring saves energy. The power consumption for switching the circuit breaker on and off is reduced by 88%.

28.01.2019:  Mitsubishi Electric is expanding its highly configurable and scalable monitoring portfolio menergy for the transparent acquisition and analysis of energy data around a protection relay and a soft starter. The "Meprotect" digital protection system, available for the first time on the European market, is flexible and modular. Added to this is the digital soft starter "Mesoftstart", which also works in harsh environments.

The protection relay meprotect offers the unique opportunity to use it in low and medium voltage projects. The highly configurable relay provides information about power quality, load history and power requirements. It thus provides valuable input for Predictive Maintenance. Setting up the conditions under which a warning message is to be issued or, if necessary, an emergency shutdown is carried out via the intuitive user interface.

"The Meprotect models are a key component of our monitoring solutions and extremely versatile - from simple motor protection to complex solutions for generator and transformer protection," says Michael Finke, Product Manager Low Voltage Switchgear at Mitsubishi Electric.

An uniform hardware and software platform guarantees the problem-free expandability of the relays, while the connection to higher-level automation systems and the monitored system parts is easy with the help of fieldbus technology is realized.

Digital soft starter also for harsh environments

At the second new component of the energy system Mesoftstart is a series of digital soft starters that ensure gentle motor startup, especially in harsh environmental conditions. They thus contribute to electrical and mechanical system protection.

Safety relay for signal processing for machine safety

The energy concept is rounded off by monitoring kits on the basis of the measurement module EMU4-FD1-MB ​​in the three expansion stages basic, easy and smart. This captures electrical characteristics such as voltage, current and harmonics for efficient energy management and cost savings.
