Cloud-native simulation in PTC Onshape

02.11.2022 | PTC now offers cloud-native simulation as part of its Onshape product development platform. Designers and engineers can use Onshape Simulation Finite Element Analysis (FEA) easily and quickly. Structural analyzes provide a well-founded basis for design decisions throughout the product development process.

With that, Onshape the only tool for computer-aided design (CAD) and product data management (PDM) with simulation embedded directly in the core design and construction environment. With Onshape Simulation, structural analyzes can be prepared and calculated faster and with less effort and work steps.

"With Onshape Simulation, designers can very efficiently simulate complete assemblies and thus make important decisions in the design process about time, material and quality," explains Greg brown, Vice President of Onshape Product Management.

Onshape Simulation features and benefits

  • PTC OnshapePrecise notes on mechanics such as Stiffness and strength directly in the construction environment. CAD model and simulation model are defined identically. This significantly simplifies setting up the assembly for the simulation.
  • By using existing assembly mates when defining Part-to-Part Interactions models do not need to be edited or simplified prior to running simulations. There is also no need to set up connections.
  • Faster assessment of variant construction, because assemblies can be designed and analyzed simultaneously without preprocessing or meshing. The simulation results update automatically when changes are made to Onshape models.
  • Thanks to integrated PDM, simulations are version controlled. This also applies to the simulations for all variants. They can be instantly shared with other users, simplifying collaborative decision-making.
  • Based on cloud computing, simulations can be carried out quickly and interactively without specific local hardware.

Onshape Simulation is now available for Onshape Enterprise users available. The tool will soon also be available for Onshape Professional users. The new Onshape Arena Connection connects the cloud-native solutions Onshape Product Development and Arena PLM. This allows for the instant exchange of product data between Onshape and Arena. Companies can use it to accelerate the product development process and simplify collaboration with partners in the supply chain. With the acquisition of Cloudmilling, PTC Onshape has also added a cloud native CAM functionality extended.

PTC is exhibiting at the SPS 2022.

Free onshape for #wirvsvirus hackathon

PTC WirVSVirus13.05.2020/XNUMX/XNUMX | At the beginning of April, numerous development teams responded to the call for applications for the #WirVsVirus Hackathon of Federal government followed. Within 48 hours, almost 30.000 people worked 1500 solutions for a wide variety of ongoing challenges Corona crisis out. A 26-person jury selected the most promising results. PTC offers as part of this Solution Enabler program the use of the CAD software for product development Onshape.

Among the 130 projectsn there are solutions for medical care, test procedures and diagnosis, production of equipment and improvement of the data situation on Covid-19. In addition, numerous projects on coping with everyday crisis, preventing violence and improving social and cultural participation made it into the final selection.

The task now is to enable the teams to implement these projects and make them operational quickly. For this purpose was represented by under the patronage of the Federal Chancellery Prof. Dr. Helge Brown, Head of the Federal Chancellery, launched an implementation program for the 130 selected projects.

Onshape CAD software for Corona projects

The collaborative, browser-based CAD software for Product development onshape serves the drafting, construction and design work that has been used since the beginning of the Corona crisis. These include projects such as the school competition Robots to the Rescue and the initiative Maskson, which manufactures respiratory masks from diving equipment. Schoolchildren, students and developers who do not have commercial goals can use Onshape for free.

Prototyping in a week shortens time-to-market

"As part of the Solution Enabler program, we would like to make Onshape available free of charge because we know, not least from the Covid-19 projects that have already been implemented with it, how important opportunities for engineers, designers, developers and idea generators are, especially in times of social distance", says Bernhard Eberl, Director Academic Relations and Public Affairs Europe at PTC. "In this way, everyone involved in the project can work together across locations and in real time and get their innovations ready for use much faster."

Learning resources for CAD users of all levels

Numerous learning resources are also available to users so that they can use all the possibilities of the CAD tool for their #WirVsVirus solutions. Newcomers to CAD can learn the basics in the introductory CAD course in the Learning Center. Experienced CAD users who have not yet used Onshape can use Onshape Fundamentals to get to know the user interface, functions and special features of the software. Classic learning materials for users who use the Video Tutorials you can find them at Onshape Primer. After all, everyone in the Onshape forum exchange.

"We hope that with Onshape we can make a contribution to overcoming the global crisis," says Bernhard Eberl. In the corona crisis, many hopes are directed towards digital innovations that can absorb or mitigate the direct and indirect consequences of the crisis. It looks like that too Dorothee Bear, Minister of State and Federal Government Commissioner for Digitization: "We are convinced that the selected solutions can make an important contribution to overcoming the crisis," she said at the opening event for the implementation program.
