Surge protection for photovoltaic systems with AC mains connection

In order to guarantee a high availability of the photovoltaic systems, it is important to protect them from destruction by overvoltages. Only with the use of protective measures can yield-reducing downtimes of PV systems be prevented. Weidmüller offers its new surge protection "Varitector PU" for 1000 V DC and 1500 V DC applications especially for photovoltaic systems.
The range is supplemented by devices for the respective AC mains connection. Varitector PU PV is primarily designed for installation in generator junction boxes and fully supports protection classes I and II. The surge protectors are compliant with the latest EN / IEC standards and comply with UL and EN standards for worldwide use.
The VPU PV have a maximum short-circuit rating, ie PV systems with many solar panels in a string are protected with up to 11 kA of the possible short-circuit current. No further protective elements are necessary. VPU PV is equipped with compact, pluggable arresters, which enable tool-free, fast and cost-efficient replacement - even of individual arresters.
Installations of photovoltaic systems are often also at heights up to 4000 m. The overvoltage protection devices are designed in such a way that they also reliably protect PV systems at these exposed locations. An additional risk assessment in the direction of a power reduction - usual for installations at these heights - is not necessary.
