The articulated coupling connects two shaft ends for torque transmission. The torsionally rigid couplings also compensate for large radial and angular misalignments of the shafts. This makes it suitable for applications where precise shaft alignment is not possible or would be costly. With these characteristics she beats them Bellows or Dog clutch. Below you will find innovations from various manufacturers.

Articulated coupling for bridging high shaft misalignments

18.01.2021 | KBK Antriebstechnik offers a robust joint coupling for applications with particularly high shaft misalignment. In contrast to standardcouplings with metal bellows or polymer elements, this aluminum or steel articulated coupling is based on the principle of the cardan joint. the Couplings with the designation KBGK and KBGK-T are fatigue-resistant, very rigid and almost free of play thanks to special bushings and guides.

Due to its design, the articulated coupling can compensate for unusually high shaft misalignments. One up to 2 mm in size Radial misalignment can be easily compensated for in a small installation space. If the misalignment is too large, the service life of a metal bellows coupling decreases relatively quickly, while a claw coupling transfers the forces that occur into the gear bearings, which are then damaged by increased wear.

Articulated coupling beats metal bellows coupling or claw coupling

The articulated coupling can still be used without any problems in these cases, for example when installing Printing machines or wherever the resulting shaft misalignment cannot be determined with the necessary accuracy in advance.

The articulated coupling also offers very low restoring forces, high torsional rigidity and axial stiffness, variable thread diameters and a high angular and radial offset. In addition, this coupling can transmit relatively large torques in relation to the installation space.

Both articulated couplings can be connected to the drive train quickly and easily: With the KBGK this is done through the combination of internal thread / external thread. The KBGK series has a threaded hole on one side and a threaded pin on the other. As a result, this articulated coupling is particularly suitable for use as a transmission coupling for two shafts or as a linear coupling.

Slip clutch + overload clutch limit torques

Within the KBGK-T The joint coupling is connected via side clamping screws. The couplings are available with external diameters from 18 to 100 mm. Depending on the size, the KBGK can absorb axial forces between 200 and 13.000 N. Not only can you use it Linear motoren, but also connect shafts with very little play. Here the KBGK can compensate for radial offsets of up to 2,5 mm and angular offsets of up to 6°.

Application example linear coupling

For example, must be a Linear motor at both ends on one machine frame are screwed and the supports are not exactly aligned, this results in a shaft misalignment which leads to the bending of the linear motor axis. The result is a lack of precision and increased wear. If a joint coupling with internal and external thread is used on one side for the connection to the linear motor axis, the problem is solved.

Connection via servo motors

The KBGK-T series is suitable for use Servomotor and stepper motor. Servo motors are connected to the drive train quickly and with little play using the KBGK-T articulated coupling. The Compensating coupling is suitable for use in the packaging industry, printing technology, in assembly machines as well as in handling and positioning systems. The KBGK-T can precisely transmit torques between 2 and 580 Nm and reliably compensates for even large angular and radial misalignments. Sizes with shaft diameters from 3 to 55 mm are available.

Order plain bearing and needle bearing universal joints online

January 29.01.2020, XNUMX | Shaft joints from Belden offers from now on Ruland via its eCommerce platform. The wide range of plain bearings and needle bearing joints for machine construction are available in alloy steel and stainless steel, in standard versions from stock or with machined hubs upon customer request. The shaft joints expand Ruland's range of drive elements. They complement the product portfolio of backlash-free precision couplings.

These include rigid coupling, flexible beam coupling, bellows coupling, Controlflex coupling, Disk clutch, Elastomer coupling and Oldham coupling. They complement the product portfolio with less play Precision couplings. This includes rigid coupling, flexible beam coupling, Bellows, Controlflex clutch, Disk clutch, Elastomer coupling and Oldham coupling.

e-commerce platform

Via the eCommerce platform, users have access to 2D and 3D CAD files of the shaft joints as well as to the product specifications. Application specialists from Ruland offer by Live chat technical support in the selection of the shaft joints. In addition to common sizes of the normal Warehouseinventory, Ruland adapts non-stored products to the customer's specific needs. With this, the company wants to raise the service level for universal joints above the usual industry standards.

Articulated couplings with angular displacement up to 7°

Orbit joint coupling22.07.2011 | Orbit Drive Technology has expanded its product range to include the series of axially fixed joint couplings. These combine the properties of cross slide couplings and shaft joints. In addition to compensating for angular displacements of up to 7°, the axially rigid couplings offer radial compensation options of up to 0,5 mm.

The coupling hubs are optional Clamping hubs or in an adjusting screw version made of aluminum and additionally anodized. The cross-shaped central element is made of stainless steel. The pairing of the nickel-coated pins and the plain bearings ensures minimal restoring forces and is adapted to minimize rotational play.

The couplings are available in an outside diameter range of 12,7 to 40 mm and, depending on the size, offer nominal torque transmission up to 5 Nm. The range of these axially fixed joint couplings offers a variety of bore diameters from 3 to 15 mm.
