Industry news from the companies

LappThe Stuttgart-based Lapp Group positions itself in the e-mobility sector. “In view of the increasingly scarce fossil fuels, there must be new alternatives such as electromobility. We mustn't miss out on the trend, ”says Werner Becker, Managing Director of Lapp Systems, a company of the Stuttgart-based Lapp Group. That is why the Lapp Group, in cooperation with the company Bals Elektrotechnik GmbH from North Rhine-Westphalia, has developed a coordinated, complete and series-ready charging system with cables and connectors.

Lapp Systems and Bals are showing a range of charging variants for the charging system at eCarTec. They all correspond to the new VDE standard, to which well-known automobile manufacturers have also contributed. The right connecting cable comes from Lapp and is called "Oelflex Charge". The spiral cable is halogen-free, flame-retardant, oil-resistant and designed for a temperature range of -40° to +90°C. This makes it perfect for heavy-duty environments.

Werner Becker: “A cable like this has to work reliably in all weather conditions. In addition, it should not be dragged across the ground in a confusing manner when refueling or damage the vehicle. That's why we offer this charging system customized and preferably in special, flexible spiral shapes.” Bals Elektrotechnik supplies the complete range of connectors with plugs, couplings, mounting sockets and device plugs for vehicle power supply. In the future, data can be exchanged between the vehicle and the power supply via two additional contacts in the connector.

With the charging system, the Lapp Group has further strategically expanded its expertise in e-mobility. The portfolio also includes special and patented high-voltage cabling for the new generation of vehicles. These high-voltage cables are used in the vehicle interior and can be manufactured to customer specifications in various connection technologies.

The automotive supplier Continental is already using special system connections from Lapp for mass production of the hybrid storage of the new Mercedes-Benz S 400 Blue Hybrid. These cables and connector systems are used inside the lithium-ion batteries. In addition, Lapp is in contact with well-known companies that are currently developing new battery systems to better store electrical energy.
