Harting1219The Harting Technology Group In Espelkamp, 2018 / 19 performed well despite a difficult economic environment. Sales declined slightly and decreased by 1,6% to 750 million (previous year: 762 million). As a result, the globally active family-owned company achieved the second-highest sales in its 74-year corporate history.

"We expected this result in light of various indicators," said Chief Executive Philip Harting. Political uncertainties, trade conflicts, Brexit and currency effects would have affected the result. "Adjusted for currency effects, however, we would have repeated our record result of the previous year," said the Harting boss.

"In terms of the competitive environment and to our customers, we have done quite well," said the CEO, pointing to the forecast of the industry association VDMA ("these are mainly our customers"), for both years 2019 and 2020 of a decline of 2 % goes out.

The regions in which HARTING operates worldwide have developed differently in the 2018 / 19 financial year. In addition to declines, there was also strong growth. Sales in the EMEA area increased by 6% to 278 million (previous year: 263 million). In the Asia region, it fell slightly by 0,5% to 186 million (previous year: 187 million). In the Americas region, a minus of 9% to 72 million (previous year: 79 million €) was booked. Sales in Germany also fell by 8% to 214 million (previous year: 233 million). "The crisis in the wind power industry, significant declines in mechanical engineering and plant construction, as well as the trade disputes are clearly taking hold here, and Germany's growth engine is stuttering," said Philip Harting.

In addition to a positive development in certain regions, Harting recorded strong growth in the area of e-mobility charging infrastructure with double-digit growth rates. Therefore, production in Romania will be expanded. In May 2020 the expansion of the plants in Sibiu and Agnita should be completed. The subsidiary Harting Automotive recently registered a strong increase in demand for e-mobility solutions. The business unit Harting Customized Solutions (HCS) is also growing.

Harting will continue to invest in these growth areas, as well as in the development of new products, innovations and technologies. Philip Harting sees the technology group well positioned with its current portfolio of innovative products and solutions. The Technology Group again invested above-average in the past fiscal year. "With a total of around 66 million €, a record amount was achieved," said Maresa Harting-Hertz, Chief Financial Officer. The number of employees (including apprentices) increased to 2018 in the course of the 19 / 5268 financial year (previous year: 4980). That's an increase of 5,8%.
