Battery operated wireless foot switches for medical technology

Steute Meditec presents a new family of wireless foot switches for universal use in medical technology. The user interfaces of this series are so energy efficient that they can be operated with standard batteries. At the same time, a very high level of security and availability is achieved.
The wireless footswitch is available in one to four-pedal version. They complement the user interface program as the new standard wireless footswitch series.
The signal transmission to the medical device takes place via the third and latest generation of the specially developed wireless technology, which is characterized by a significantly reduced energy consumption at high (and adjustable) transmission power. Despite the low energy consumption, the response time is very short: The signal transmission of an active footswitch only takes 20 milliseconds. From the energy-saving sleep mode, the switches transmit a valid signal within 50 to 60 ms when actuated.
The low-energy radio technology makes it possible for the first time to use commercially available alkaline batteries instead of lithium-ion batteries. Using three type C cells, on-board power supplies can last more than a year and a half for typical deployment profiles.
The radio technology uses the 2,4GHz frequency band and is therefore universally applicable worldwide. The achievable safety level is high with SIL 3 according to IEC 61508, as well as the classification of Risk Management for the software (EN 62304) in safety class C.
In addition to the optimized power supply and the high level of transmission reliability and service life, great importance was attached to ergonomic design with, among other things, fatigue-free and intuitive operation of the footswitch.
