Multi-tag capable RFID devices with unique range

08.01.2024/XNUMX/XNUMX | Pepperl+Fuchs presents two new RFID read/write devices. The high performance IQH3-FP-V1 and IQT3-FP-IO-V1 are suitable for identification tasks. They offer the advantages of high-frequency RFID with a unique detection range and are housed in a modern, compact housing to save space.

Based on the globally standardized ISO 15693 High frequency RFIDtechnology (13.56 MHz), the RFID readers/writers offer absolutely reliable and interference-free read/write results for near-field use. The devices have a unique adjustable range within this class on the market of up to 30 cm. You can capture up to 20 RFID transponders with just one reading process.

In addition to the high level of flexibility, the RFID readers offer a high level of flexibility process safety. By checking their own resonance frequency, they can automatically adapt to interference caused by the installation situation, surrounding materials or interfering radiation.

RFID devices are available for seamless integration into the system environment two options: The IQT3-FP-IO-V1 has an integrated IO-Link interface. The IQH3-FP-V1 can be integrated via the Identcontrol evaluation units from Pepperl+Fuchs.

Safe positioning for working platforms

Pepperl Fuchs RFID lifting platform07.08.2023 | Working on lifts near danger areas, such as near railway overhead lines, require special safety measures. In order to guarantee the well-being of the workers, it is necessary to ensure that the lift is activated only when there is no electrical voltage in the section concerned.

A sophisticated one Back-up system for medifa XNUMX continuously compares the voltage state of the catenary with the position of the platform. Activation of the stage is only allowed when these factors match. It may also be necessary to adjust the maximum extension length of the platform to comply with safety guidelines.

Precise location determination

Around Location of a work platform to determine precisely and reliably, a non-contact RFID system from Pepperl + Fuchs deployed. Even under challenging conditions, this system should be easy to install and always work reliably. Despite the presence of numerous solid metal components in the detection field, the system must deliver a consistently stable signal. Furthermore, the RFID system should offer a sufficient range and not be impaired in its performance by dirt, dust and oil.

The RFID technology

Pepperl fox transmitter receiverAn RFID read/write head of type F190-B40 is mounted on the working platform. It reads the information from a transponder mounted on the rail at high speed and provides information about the position. The safe steering checks whether the overhead line in this segment is switched off. A high transmission power ensures the reliable detection of the transponders with these UHF RFID readers.

The transponder can be glued, screwed or fastened with rivets. They work without further precautions on both Metal as well as on non-metallic substrates. They are UV resistant Plastic coated and are therefore suitable for permanent outdoor use.

Standard and customized RFID transponders

The advanced system is suitable for secure applications up to the standards SIL 2 / PL d. Housed in the robust IP67 cast housing, the read/write head offers optimal performance even in particularly tight installation spaces despite its compact design. In addition, users benefit from an integrated multi-protocol interface for Industrial Ethernet. This makes an external evaluation unit superfluous.

RFID and Barcodes | Industrial identification

In addition to the standard transponder, other variants can be individually adapted to the specific application. For more complex requirements, Pepperl+Fuchs also bespokee security concepts ready. Developed according to internationally recognized standards such as ISO18000-63 and ISO 15693, these RFID solutions offer high investment security without the need to be tied to a proprietary system.

Sensors for reliable identification in refrigerated warehouses

05.08.2019 | In the deep-freeze zones, other laws prevail than in environments under normal temperatures. The barcode scanner VB14N-T from Pepperl+Fuchs ensures optical identification here at temperatures down to -35 °C. It offers very good reading performance even with low barcode contrast, can be put into operation quickly thanks to a quick warm-up phase and is energy-efficient and compact.

During the Food industry An uninterrupted cold chain is essential for the quality of the products. According to German food law, the maximum storage temperature for frozen products is -18 °C. This temperature must not be exceeded throughout the cold chain. This places high demands on the sensors in the freezer stores. Even at the lowest temperatures, the frozen products must be reliably identified so that they finally arrive at the right destination.

Challenges of the application

The goods are transported on trays in the deep-freeze warehouse. This can be done with the help of the barcodes attached to the trays Frozen goods identified and transported to further picking. The scanners must therefore be able to be used quickly and reliably at the lowest temperatures. In addition, the prevailing temperatures can negatively affect the readability of the codes themselves. For minimal error rates and low throughput times, even codes that are difficult to read must always be reliably recognized, even at high throughput speeds.

Features of the barcode scanner

pepperl fuchs barcode scannerThe barcode scanner VB14N-T has an integrated heater and can withstand ambient temperatures from -35° to +45 °C. Due to the short warm-up phase of a maximum of 20 minutes, it is quickly ready for use and has a reduced energy consumption of a maximum of 9,6 W. In addition, the scanner is very reliable when reading barcodes that are difficult to recognize thanks to its high-performance optics and code reconstruction. The compact design also allows installation where space is limited.

It can up to 32 devices connected to each other via a high-speed connection. This enables multiple barcodes, which can be in different positions, to be recorded at the same time. The scanner has a function key and several LEDs to support parameterization, barcode teaching and testing.

During operation, the LEDs provide information about the respective reading status. The associated PC software also allows easy parameterization.

RFID read/write heads in tire manufacture

Pepperl write read head23.01.2018/XNUMX/XNUMX | In order to achieve the greatest possible read probability, it is necessary to use the optimum read/write head and transponder select for an application. Pepperl+Fuchs succeeded in ensuring the traceability of semi-finished products at a tire manufacturer.

Many factors influence the performance of the RFID systems, such as the desired range, the size and shape of the object to be identified, object speed versus transmission rate, object environment - much more and, last but not least, the human factor. Pepperl+Fuchs' goal is therefore to find the optimal solution for the customer.

The automation company has a flexible product platform of RFID systems, which together with modern production techniques such as 3D Print and hotmelt process enables Prototypes to be realized very quickly. However, since this is not just a pure production problem, a tailor-made read/write head cannot be offered for a quantity of 1. So are e.g. For example, on-site visits or special radio approvals for the read/write head are usually necessary.

Follow-up on the bobbins

The result of such a customer-specific project is the HF read/write head IQH1-F198-V1, which was specially developed for the traceability of semi-finished products in tire production. For this purpose, the RFID writing/RFID reading device is installed in so-called cap strip and tire building machines in order to track the semi-finished products on the coil formers. The particular challenge here is that the metal holder of the coil body is in the field of the read/write head and that the position of the RFID transponder attached to the coil body is not fixed when the coil body is changed, but at varying points on a circular segment around the coil holder located.

For the optimal solution, a ring-shaped HF read/write head was implemented so that the coil holder can be guided through the read/write head and the RFID transponder is always located in the reading range of the reader. This means that the worker does not have to pay attention to the position of the RFID chip when changing the bobbin. Since this is always in the field of the read/write head, regardless of the position of the coil body, the RFID transponder can be read and written not only when the coil body is stationary but also while it is rotating. So are a reliable process flow and also the Traceability of the semi-finished products with these RFID transponders is ensured at all times.

FAQ

What is RFID?

RFID technology stands for “Radio-Frequency Identification” means identification using electromagnetic waves. These are transmitter-receiver systems that make it possible to clearly identify objects and living beings and to read or write data using electromagnetic waves. The advantage of RFID over other identification systems such as e.g. B. barcode technology is that no direct visual contact between the RFID reader and the RFID tag is required. In addition, in many cases, RFID tags can also be used in harsh environments where barcodes would be unreadable.
