Mitsubishi Electric Europe BV has established the business area "High Precision Positioning Systems" based in the German branch in Ratingen. The new division offers German and European customers key technologies to accelerate the introduction of centimeter-accurate autonomous driving and safer driving support.
These are the Mobile Mapping System (MMS) and the high-precision positioning receiver "Aqloc" with centimeter accuracy for applications in road and commercial vehicles, ship ports, drones and in the agricultural sector.
Aqloc will provide GNSS and positioning data enhancement services from Sapcorda, a Mitsubishi Electric joint venture, Bosch, Geo ++ and U-blox, be compatible. MMS uses vehicle-mounted GNSS antennas, laser scanners and cameras to collect 3D positioning data for roads with high accuracy and creates comprehensive, high-resolution 3D maps needed to support autonomous driving.
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation offers its mobile mapping and high-precision positioning systems in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania, where demand for high-precision and efficient field surveys and infrastructure inspections is expected to continue.
"We leverage our experience of developing the Japanese Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) and the Centimeter-Level Augmentation Service (CLAS), which provide centimeter-level positioning in Japan, and invested in Dynamic Map Platform, an 3D Mapping project in Japan, which in February 2019 acquired the US company Ushr, making an important contribution to the infrastructure for autonomous driving, and we want to use our technological know-how and experience to pave the way for precise and safe autonomous driving in Europe. " says Kenji Nakakuki, Division Manager, High Precision Positioning Systems, Mitsubishi Electric Europe BV
The MMS and Aqloc are manufactured by the Japanese parent company Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, a leading manufacturer that has been involved in space exploration and development since the 1960, and has been involved in the production of more than 500 Japanese and international satellites as a major contractor or subcontractor.
"We look forward to incorporating this new business into our broad mobility portfolio, which already includes automotive equipment, power semiconductors, and rail systems." The High Precision Positioning Systems business unit completes our mobility segment, offering German and European customers essential technologies for high-precision autonomous driving, "explains Andreas Wagner , President of the German branch of Mitsubishi Electric.
