Rampf Production Systems has developed a fully automated gluing system for external vehicle parts such as side walls, rear spoilers, tailgates and spoiler lips. The combination of innovative mixing and dosing technology, automation and robotics maximizes the precision, speed and flexibility of the manufacturing processes.
Car manufacturers don't just measure speed in kilometers per hour. Extremely fast production processes are also essential to stay one step ahead of the competition. With its concept of a holistic production cell for the bonding of external vehicle parts, the manufacturer makes a significant contribution to maximizing the speed, precision and flexibility of the manufacturing processes.
Dosing system C-DS as the centerpiece
The heart of the ingenious production unit for the bonding of side walls, rear spoilers, tailgates and spoiler lips is the C-DS metering system. The compact system guarantees the precise application of 2K room temperature curing polyurethane adhesives, which are used to bond the parts.
The C-DS includes a material preparation, dosing and mixing system as well as PLC control and integrated process monitoring. The modular design of the dosing system ensures a high degree of flexibility, as dosing pumps and mixing systems can be easily integrated into existing production lines.
Poka Yoke Process Control
Before the adhesive is applied, a poka-yoke-based quality control system verifies that the loaded parts have undergone manual pre-cleaning. For this purpose, cleaning sensors are used.
The production cell can be equipped with Fanuc, Kuka or ABB robots. Conveyor tracking systems enable robots to detect, pick up and accurately place parts on a moving conveyor belt. Depending on the requirements of the component to be glued, several robots can be integrated into the system.
For optimal adhesion properties, a surface activation via plasma treatment is installed, for the rapid curing of the glued parts provides Curing-on-Demand (COD).
Custom-made solutions for leading automobile manufacturers
“We can adapt this production cell to a wide variety of requirements, such as joining tools Linear motoren, traversing axes for mixing and dosing technology or automatic unloading,” says Stefan Huber, head of project management at Rampf Production Systems. “Based on our standardized technology concept, we have already developed several tailor-made production systems for bonding parts from leading European automobile manufacturers.”
