28.09.2024 | Diamond Polymer presents a solution for pore-deep impregnation of 3D-printed components that offers permanent UV protection. With Dichtol AM UV Protection, additively manufactured workpieces can be effectively made gas- and liquid-tight and at the same time protected against UV radiation and discoloration.
22.09.2020 | Although stainless steel offers little chance of microbial colonization, this is not enough in Health sector or at vending machines and counters in public spaces. Here, the antimicrobial coating of SedlbauerThe special varnish ensures optically brilliant surfaces, is antibacterial, long-lasting and gives germs no chance to settle.
The actual risk of getting over a contaminated surface by pathogenic germs like Fungi, bacteria, yeast or with virus infecting is comparatively low for healthy people. The perceived risk of infection increases significantly as soon as many people unprotected and with high activity, for example, use the same number field on an input keyboard on a machine.
This can be remedied by an additional protective layer microbes makes it practically impossible to adhere, develop, and thus cause disease in users. Microbes are a term used in microbiology. The most common representatives of the microbes are viruses, bacteria and fungi. The germs die and chains of infection are broken.
The antibacterial coating will like a protective varnish applied. Optical designs are possible, for example, as smooth varnish, effect varnish or varnish with structured effects. The homogeneous coating is extremely thin, less than 60 µm. Long-term resistance to acids, alkalis, scratching or wiping, the antimicrobial paints also withstand permanent cleaning and disinfection.
As if the risk of infection were not bad enough, the microbial colonization of surfaces can also lead to odor and color changes or even damage to displays. The antibacterial coating suppresses the development of these unpleasant ones Biofilms of bacteria and Co.
Sedlbauer developed the antibacterial paint together with a partner and optimized it for processing in wet painting. He reduces the number of germs on the surface by up to 99,9999% (log 5,9%). The tests are carried out in accordance with JIS Z 2801 (JIS: Japanese Industrial Standard - Japanese industrial standard, comparable to DIN). This standard has been standardized worldwide as ISO 2007 since 22196.
03.07.2019 | Components that are KTL process are generally hung or stuck on special devices before they are dipped into the various baths. In addition to constructive measures in the design of the workpieces, the construction of these product carriers themselves also contributes to a good coating result.
13.12.2018 | Klüber Lubrication presents new water-miscible anti-friction coatings without flammable solvents for long-life dry lubrication and for special applications with pre-start lubrication. In addition to the well-known advantages of dry lubrication, the new product line offers a significant improvement in sliding properties and increased tightness of O-rings due to reduced gas and liquid permeability.
“When coating O-rings, anti-friction coatings have to fulfil various tasks, from simple separation or facilitating assembly to dynamic stresses, for example in valve lubrication,” explains Rudolf Zechel, Manager Special Projects at Klüber Lubrication.
"When coating components in the food and drinking water sector, FDA or drinking water conformity is also required. Our new product lines combine the advantages of our proven anti-friction coatings with the additional advantage that they do not contain any flammable solvents and no emissions are released during application."
03.09.2018 | Whether direct and indirect lighting accents, colored accent strips or mirror surfaces: With innovative plastic coating, components in and around the vehicle can be designed in a variety of ways. The range of what is possible with plasma vacuum coatings (PVD) in combination with UV paint is shown Benseler.
On display are mainly components for the Vehicle interior, which take into account the increasing demands on design and personalization of the vehicle interior in automobile production. The surface specialists show how they use translucent PVD coatings to coat accent strips with a shiny chrome surface, which display backlit operating symbols.
For interior components with day-night design, the surface experts solve the PVD coating The metallic surface is partially removed again using laser processing, so that button functions such as "Start", "Stop" or "Play" are visible in the desired font and form - in daylight, for example, in plastic white, and backlit in the dark. The parts are then sealed with a UV top coat.
Further accents and additional colour design options are offered by the so-called Sputtering of “Diamond Like Carbon” (DLC) layers. This new generation of hard material layers made of diamond-like, amorphous carbon and graphite are characterized by their abrasion resistance, low friction coefficient, corrosion suppression and optical transparency at layer thicknesses of up to 1000 nm. They also enable high-quality, brilliant black chrome effects and elegant black high-gloss effects.
24.07.2015 | With the “sol-gel” coatings of its new product line “Cercoat”, WZR Ceramic Solutions can specifically optimize the surface quality of metallic, glass and polymer workpieces and semi-finished products. The range of achievable properties is enormous, as the coatings, which are available in three groups, can be modified in many ways. This offers manufacturers, developers and suppliers considerable potential for improving surface technology.
Cercoat and consists of three different types of Sol-gel coatings, which give the treated workpieces and semi-finished products significant functional and qualitative improvements. Metallic surfaces thus receive, for example, greater wear protection, improved wetting properties or electrical insulation. The coatings are therefore suitable for finishing components for general mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical and process engineering, medical technology, the food industry and many other areas of application.
Cercoat-H is the transparent thin layer (<1 µm) whose main task is to provide surfaces with a higher level of hardness. The degree of hardness can be variably adjusted depending on requirements and makes the components treated in a dipping and tempering process resistant to scratches and scrapes. An ideal improvement for all products that are used in harsh environments and have to be dishwasher safe.
At the same time, the surfaces coated with Cercoat-H receive a high resistance against solvents, which makes it suitable for many industrial cleaning processes. Cercoat-H is suitable as a coating for stainless steel and steel as well as for aluminum and glass. Even technical plastics such as Peeklass can be coated with it.
The second, also transparent product Cercoat-Y is a coating with hydrophobic properties. It is particularly environmentally friendly because it does not require fluorine modification. It can be used, for example, in plastic injection molding to minimize the undesirable adhesion of the plastic melt in the injection mold. Cercoat-Y can be applied using both the dip coating process and the spray coating process. The latter offers the advantage that it can also be used to coat components with very complex geometries without any problems. This sol-gel thin layer also proves to be very resistant to chemicals and solvents in practice.
The third coating is called Cercoat-P and is a sol enriched with ceramic particles. Both the surface structure and the layer thickness (>80 µm) can be adapted to the application. Compared to particle-free coatings, Cercoat-P offers even greater wear resistance and a second major advantage: high electrical insulation (dielectric strength). In addition, these coatings can also be made hydrophobic and can also be applied transparently or colored. They are suitable for application to steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, glass and PEEK.
07.05.2013 | Ceramic Polymer has launched a new, solvent-free tank interior coating with exceptionally high protective functions. The special physical properties of this new development reliably protect stainless steel from serious corrosion damage. The new development is absolutely resistant to a wide range of chemicals and gases up to a permanent operating temperature of 150 °C.
Under optimal conditions stainless steel Long-term resistance to corrosion. The reaction of oxygen and the high concentration of chromium atoms in the stainless steel causes the formation of a passive layer, a dense oxide layer that protects the steel from corrosion. However, this optimal condition is not always present. The most important factors are the surface condition and the professional processing (e.g. avoiding mixed construction, adhering to specific welding guidelines) of the stainless steel.
Even aggressive storage media such as strong acids or alkalis can Passive layer attack and cause surface corrosion, for example. Chloride-containing substances in the presence of an electrolyte remove the chromium atoms required for the formation of the passive layer from the stainless steel. As a result, the protective layer on the metal surface is locally broken through. The resulting pitting corrosion can destroy a component within a few months. This occurs more frequently near the sea, for example. Even stainless steel turns deep brown and corrodes due to the aggressive, salty air.
A special coating system for stainless steel must withstand extreme technical requirements, because stainless steel is only used when there are increased demands on the Corrosion Protection In addition to the operating temperature of 150 °C, the new development is absolutely resistant to a wide range of chemicals and gases. Another important special feature is the high adhesion and the excessive improvement in adhesion strength through the influence of heat.
A Tempering of the coated surfaces to 70 °C results in an oversized adhesion to the stainless steel of 30,6 MPa. These results and other interesting results relating to the performance of the new premium product range are confirmed by complex test series in cooperation with the independent research institute Innovent e. V. and are supported by relevant practical experience. The application of the coating is extremely simple: it is carried out directly on the substrate using an airless spraying process.
The coating system achieves a high degree of chemical resistance without any limitation of the protective function against a wide range of acids and alkalis (pH value 0-14) up to 110 °C operating temperature; hydrocarbons of all kinds, even over 9000 h continuous storage in 98% sulphuric acid, undiluted methanol, 3% sodium chloride solution in a 1/3 mixture ratio at a temperature of 50 °C. In addition, the coating offers outstanding adhesion due to its innovative formulation. After curing at room temperature, an average adhesion strength of 17,7 MPa is achieved. This value improves by 72% when the surface is heated to 70 °C. An average adhesion of 30,6 MPa is measured here.
Whether this effect can also be achieved in service, that is, when a tank provided with the inner coating is filled after curing at room temperature with a correspondingly warm or hot liquid medium, among other things, is the subject of current investigations.

In addition to process and pressure vessels in various industries and storage tanks for highly corrosive chemicals or gases, components for equipment and plant construction are effectively protected. Another focus is on the Biogas industry: Biogas fermenters or hygienization containers for highly aggressive biomass through the processing of pomace, distillery slurry, slaughterhouse waste, fats or oils are often made of stainless steel. However, this high-quality substrate alone cannot be considered reliable long-term protection against corrosion. Only a specific coating can guarantee the long service life of the systems without costly downtime and time-consuming renovation work.
