schmersal1218The Schmersal group introduces the Safety control "Protect PSC1"With integrated OPC UA server, a new industrial 4.0-compatible solution. The connection of the PSC1 to the industrial machine-to-machine communication protocol makes it possible for extensive information from the manufacturer's products to be included in a cross-manufacturer data exchange in the future.

In addition, these can provide maintenance information so that predictive maintenance allows the components to be replaced in a timely manner, before reaching the End of Lifetime or losing the performance level.

The Protect PSC1 is a programmable, modular safety controller. It is equipped with a universal communication interface to enable data exchange via different fieldbus systems with higher-level control systems. The various fieldbus protocols can be easily selected by software, so that the control for different fieldbus systems with only one hardware manages.

An OPC UA server has now been integrated into this communication interface. This means that all security sensors can retrieve extensive data in a machine-readable, semantic description via the M2M communication protocol. These include, for example, status data of the safety outputs, safety characteristics, information on the service life of the sensors, ordering information, data sheets, drawings and images. Safety sensors equipped with a Schmersal SD bus can also display information on the actuator, the temperature in the sensor, the serial number of the instrument and error messages.

  • Interpack Hall 18, Stand D15 The packaging industry, with its sometimes complex processing and production systems, places high demands on security technology, because it has to be flexible, efficient and available, as well as contributing to the connectivity of the systems. Schmersal presents a safe field box with Profinet, Profisafe fieldbus interface with new safety solutions for the packaging industry. It is a simple and inexpensive installation solution for larger machines and systems. It enables the transmission of diagnostic and status information.
  • Solids Hall 5, Stand K 22 The Schmersal Group is presenting the new Heavy Duty Switch (HDS) switchgear series. It was specially developed for the bulk goods industry. With this HDS, various functions have been integrated on one platform, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications. In addition, the platform has extensive international approvals such as UL, CE and CCC. Atex, EAC, Inmetro and IECEx are in preparation.
  • A new branch in Turkey from security expert Schmersal started operations in January 2020. Schmersal Turkey Otomasyon Ürünleri ve Hizmetleri Ltd. Şti. is based in Istanbul. The world's leading provider in the field of machine safety is thus further expanding its global presence. The company is now represented in over 60 countries with its own companies and sales partners.
  • Cover story In the food industry, flexibility is becoming an increasingly important characteristic. At the same time, companies prefer security systems that offer operational efficiency and cost advantages in addition to the necessary security function. The machine for processing cold cuts from Weber Maschinenbau shows how these requirements can be implemented. They were secured with a modular safety controller from Schmersal. The service package included commissioning and validation by the Tec.nicum service division.
