For use in safety-related applications Heidenhain the latest generation of encoder ECN 1123 and EQN 1135 developed. They are certified according to SIL 2 (EN 61508) or category 3, Performance Level d (EN ISO 13849). In addition, they offer a mechanical fault exclusion. Its positive-locking hollow shaft has a special form-locking element, which securely engages during mounting in a corresponding groove of the drive shaft and thus effectively prevents slippage of the shaft connection.
The encoders of the ECN / EQN 1100 series provide absolute position values: in the ECN 1123 version with a singleturn resolution of 23 bit, as EQN 1135 with an additional multiturn resolution of 12 bit. Data is transmitted via the purely serial, bidirectional EnDat 2.2 interface. In the Functional Safety version, the ECN / EQN encoders output two independently generated position values via this EnDat interface. The PFHd value required for the evaluation of safety systems, which indicates the probability of a dangerous failure per hour, is under 15 x 10 for these encoders-9.
Thanks to their housing diameter of only 35 mm, the ECN / EQN 1100 encoders in Functional Safety version open up new applications in drive and medical technology as well as in the electronics industry in cramped installation conditions such as small servomotors up to 40 mm. The integrated evaluation of an external temperature sensor in the motor winding, which is integrated in the measuring device electronics, also fits in with this field of application. The EnDat protocol transmits the digitized temperature value purely serially, thus saving two wires in the connection cable.
