The BCMD of Baumer is the world's first Cold Movement Detector for ETCS Baseline 3 and others train monitoring systems, It enables significant savings in operating costs and energy by avoiding time-consuming manual procedures that would otherwise be necessary after upgrading a train from the de-energized state. With it, secured position information is already available at standstill, without approaching a balise as a reference position. The resulting time savings is on average 10 min / day and locomotive - depending on the respective railway operator.
Thus, the transport capacity can be adjusted dynamically and the track utilization increased, because the train is available almost immediately and no slow-moving vehicles block the route.
The robust sensor, which is intended for mounting on the wheel axle, is based on a patented principle and, in conjunction with the Electronic Vital Computer (EVC), fulfills the functional safety requirements for SIL4 according to EN 50128 and EN 50129. Its three-channel design without complex electronics supports an "2 from 3" evaluation by the EVC. Thus, failures due to common cause are excluded, with maximum diagnostic coverage and highest availability. This simplifies system integration and security certification.
Baumer has been acting as a reliable partner to rail technology for many years. Durable and cost-effective standard sensors in robust housings, with proven sealing concepts, sensor technology tailored to the respective application and industry-standard qualification are just as much part of the broad product portfolio as customer-oriented new developments for all conceivable sensor technology applications in rail technology.
