The Ethernet Powerlink Standardization Group (EPSG) shows how fully interface-free communication works from the sensor to the ERP level and into the cloud. The basis for this is a companion specification, which describes how user data can be exchanged between the Powerlin and the OPC UA protocol.
At SPS IPC Drives 2015, EPSG and OPC Foundation announced intensive cooperation in a joint Memorandum of Understanding. Since then, technical teams from both user organizations have been working on the Companion Specification, which has now been finalized and will soon be published on the EPSG website.
How to transfer information from a Powerlink slave directly to higher-level systems or other plant components is shown on the stand. One of the biggest challenges in implementing the Industrial Internet of Things is now a thing of the past: the line between IT and automation is disappearing.
Another highlight is a live demonstration showing how Powerlink is implemented with Codesys on a Zynq 7000 from Xilinx.
