Profibus + Profinet International (PI) introduces as part of a technology model the implementation of the performance upgrade for Profinet with the shortest cycle times of 31,25 μs. This highest performance is made possible by the implementation of the current Profinet specification V2.3, which defines the mechanisms Dynamic Frame Packing, Fast Forwarding and Fragmentation. These methods enable the fastest cycle times and extremely efficient bandwidth utilization by Profinet devices.
In addition to the cycle time of 31,25 μs, the technology demo will also demonstrate the feedback-free, parallel transmission of TCP / IP data on the Profinet path. A measuring technology application underlines the versatile application possibilities of Profinet for all applications of automation technology.
The core of the technology model is the ERTEC 200P from Siemens, the most powerful ASIC in its class. Devices built with it can cyclically transfer IO data with up to 31,25 μs. New devices developed according to the V2.3 specification remain fully compatible with today's devices. The new ASIC is suitable for a wide range of applications such as instrumentation, drive control, hydraulic controls, precision peripherals, motion control drives, and fast encoders.
The network of Profinet, Profibus and Profisafe nodes is becoming increasingly denser, as evidenced by the latest figures. The year 2011 was a very successful year for the communication technologies. Profinet once again achieved a record year-over-year record with the 1,3 millions of newly launched devices, expanding its installed base to 4,3 millions.
The number of Profibus devices grew in 2011 with just under 5 million to over 40,1 million, reaching a new high. Of these, more than 6,8 millions are now installed in process automation plants. With the Profisafe nodes installed in 400.000 2011, there is again the highest number to report for the year. Thus, the total number of Profisafe nodes has exceeded the value of 1,55 million.
