Welotectechnical articles

Applications with distributed plant parts or machines to be monitored from a central location are manifold. These can be pumps in waterworks as well as vending machines at motorway rest houses or ATMs in banks. The trend topic Smart Grid also calls for wireless and reliable data transmission. Welotec offers the new ones for such applications GPRS and UMTS routers (TK704G / U) a practical solution.

Because secure, tamper-free data transmission plays an important role in wireless communications, the routers for establishing secure private networks support OpenVPN, IPSec, PPTP, L2TP and GRE (abbreviations below). A firewall and special authentication methods additionally increase communication security.

Ethernet interfaces for easy connectionWelotec2

The easy and problem-free connection of TCP / IP-based systems to the Internet is made possible by Ethernet interfaces. The routers described here are available in versions of one to four Ethernet interfaces. Three different configuration variants of the Ethernet ports are configurable via the web interface of the router: All four ports are configured as LAN, three ports are used as LAN, one as WAN or two ports as LAN, one as WAN and one as DMZ (demilitarized zone ). A DSL modem can then be connected to the WAN interface. This makes the router z. B. for applications where you want to achieve maximum availability through redundant communication channels. A higher level of security allows DMZ by setting up a computer network with security-controlled access to the connected server. Thus it can be configured that external access to the DMZ is not possible but to the entire network.

UMTS router with high transmission speeds

The UMTS routers are easy to configure and achieve HSDPA and HSUPA transfer rates of up to 7,2 Mbit / s in the download and 5,76 Mbit / s in the upload. If no UMTS is available, the routers automatically switch to GPRS or EDGE. Thanks to the high transmission speeds and the four Ethernet ports, for example, applications are conceivable in which three vending machines and a surveillance camera send their data live to a central office. Other data-intensive applications requiring a high update rate can also be realized. Serial devices can be connected via an integrated RS-232 or alternatively RS-485 interface. A sturdy metal housing protects the routers from environmental influences. The devices are suitable for use in ambient conditions between -25 ° and + 70 ° C. For applications where reliable data transmission with low data volumes is required, a pure GPRS variant is also offered.
