Nord Drive Systems provides industry 4.0-oriented machine builders and plant immediately for solutions to provide status data of drives in real time via a cloud. In principle it is that all drive axles world monitor via an Internet connection.

In the Application Testing Center of the drive specialist in Bargteheide, the concept was tested in practice in a networked drive setup based on standard interfaces and components. The frequency inverters and motor starters are controlled via Profinet. They send the state data in UDP packets on the bus line without affecting the control communication.

The drives send data on their current consumption, speed and voltage as well as the status word, tunneled through a Siemens PLC, to an IoT gateway and into the cloud. The status data can be evaluated for energy management and remote maintenance. Overload and error conditions can be visualized. Additional application data such as the data of the connected sensors and actuators can be fed into the cloud at any time. From the status data, further values ​​can be derived, in particular the current oil temperatures. This has already been validated in first attempts.

The resulting determination of oil aging can be used for predictive maintenance. The manufacturer has for some time been providing economical, state-of-the-art solutions for condition monitoring based on virtual sensors.
