Sprint Electric Introduces PLXD Series Controllers for Thyristor Thyristor Stacks. These control units are very well suited for controlling DC powered 6 pulse or 12 pulse thyristor power modules in 2 quadrant or 4 quadrant operation. A thyristor stack regulator in combination with an external power module is used when a modular drive is unable to deliver enough power.
An external thyristor stack can be used to control motors with up to several 1000 A and can easily be controlled by the same PLXD unit. Thyristor stack regulators are used in a wide range of applications, including high-performance DC motors such as hot rolling mills, plastic extruders, rubber compounding machines.
The PLXD controllers can be planned in the design of new plants or used to retrofit existing thyristor power modules if their control electronics need to be modernized or integrated into a network with fieldbus topography. The PLXD can be supplied with the latest fieldbus protocols, including Profibus, Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP / IP, Can Open, Devicenet, Ethernet. The same control unit can be used for both 2 quadrant and 4 quadrant power modules. An 6 pulse and 12 pulse operation can also be taken into account.
