Sprint Electric introduces PLX to 2250 A (980 kW) digital DC direct current converters for use in DC metal, steel, mining, cement, rubber and plastics industries, as well as other heavy industry sectors. Thanks to a new decentralized control system, the converters can be controlled via Ethernet, without a PLC or a higher-level computer.
The digital DC converters of the PLX series are available as a two-quadrant version or as a four-quadrant regenerative version. All models from 650 to 2250 A are available with three-phase infeed from above or below. Due to the different feed options, the DC converters are now easier to install. For retrofits this facilitates the further use of the existing wiring. You can do without expensive copper cables. For new installations, the designer can save space when designing new control cabinets. DC PLX converters are available with standard 480 V AC or high voltage 690 V AC, which allows the use of 750 V DC armature motors. Compared to the standard voltage, there is an increase in shaft power to 1500 kW in the 2250 A model. This means an increase in performance by 50% without increasing the cable cross-section.
The PLX has a variety of software functions and is designed for the following fieldbus communication networks: Profibus, Devicenet, CC-Link, Ethernet / IP, Modbus and CANopen. The Ethernet-controlled motor control system drive.web includes graphical configuration tools for the diagnosis and configuration of all power converters and drives in the network - locally or remotely via the Internet. The graphical tools allow full configurability of the converters, provide service diagnostics, complete documentation and a user interface for local operation.
