weg0215WEG is expanding its W22X series of explosion-proof motors to include IEC size 800 for medium and high voltage applications. A special exhibition model of the currently largest motor in this series offers outputs of up to 5,6 MW and for voltages of up to 11 kV. The W22X 800 is available in a four-pole version. At full load and a voltage of 6,6 kV, it has an efficiency of 97,4%. The special motors of the subsidiary Antriebstechnik Katt will also be on display, including the ultra-compact water-cooled motor series for outputs of up to 440 kW.

With its high level of efficiency, the W22X 800 is also suitable for use in explosion-proof areas. This high level of efficiency is achieved, among other things, by a special tube cooling system made of stainless steel to optimize the air flow. The motors have a rigid steel housing and are available with 2, 4, 6 and 8 poles at frequencies of 50 and 60 Hz.

Contrary to the usual strategy of designing large engines as project-oriented one-offs, the W22X 800 was designed as a series engine with numerous option modules. It currently has the Atex and IEC Ex certifications for the Ex d(e) IIB T4 Gb area – more will follow. The combination of robustness and low maintenance makes the W22X 800 a perfect engine for energy-intensive applications with demanding environmental conditions, especially in the oil and gas sector and in mining.

BEN Buchele water-cooled electric motorWater-cooled electric motors: compact, powerful, quiet

Thanks to their cooling system, the ultra-compact, water-cooled motors from KATT achieve 1,5 to 2,6 times higher power density than conventional water jacket cooled motors. They are extremely compact in size, which in comparison to conventional water-cooled motors can often save several sizes while maintaining the same performance. By comparison, a conventional water jacket cooled motor with 300 kW in 315 size corresponds to an ultra-compact Katt 180 motor.
