In the process of forming technology usually urformed materials are brought into different targeted shape changes. Because these forming processes are often done by rolling, pressing or forging, couplings must be precise, torsionally rigid and robust, with high displacement and offset capacity. The compact and precise couplings of Schmidt coupling are used in roller feeds of all kinds.

Automatically and in cycle mode, they slide and pull the material to the subsequent forming press or roller with high precision. In such feeds, couplings of the Schmidt coupling series are used. The short-setting and torsionally stiff coupling is designed for a large variable radial offset and offers with low axial length while variable parallel adjustment between input and output shaft. Regardless of the offset, the coupling ensures constant angular velocity of the input and output shafts. Depending on the size of the coupling, a permissible radial offset up to 275 mm is possible. According to the torque peaks occurring through the cyclic operation, the torsionally rigid clutches are primarily equipped with frictional clamping hubs.
In special systems with very tight installation conditions, couplings from the "Power Plus" series have been selected for maximum torque transmission in a compact design. This version works with an increased number of coupling links per level. This allows for increased torque transmission while maintaining the compact clutch design. As a customized version, the coupling is designed as a flange version on one side for direct connection to the corresponding customer part. On the output side, an application-specific special hub is used. Thus, the performance and dimensions correspond exactly to the desired requirement profile. Depending on the size of the coupling, the Power Plus series offers a torque range up to 6610 Nm.

Precisely connected profiling stations with radial mountability

Profiling systems produce roll-formed profiles in a multi-stage forming process. The range of possible shapes is quite varied. The couplings of the Semiflex series are used in a specially designed system. In addition to the compensation of axial and angular misalignments, the torsionally rigid and non-restoring all-metal coupling offers a high radial displacement capacity - and this with a compact design.
A displacement compensation takes place in the torsion-resistant coupling without restoring forces by means of two 90 ° staggered parallel handlebar pairs. Regardless of the displacement, the angular synchronization of the connected waves always remains constant. Their compactness enables the connection of countless profiling stations in the smallest of spaces. Split clamping hubs allow radial mounting and dismounting without axial displacement of components. Semiflex are available as standard in a nominal torque range up to 7040 Nm. In a further profiling system, Semiflex couplings in clamping hub design are used. Again, only very restrictive installation conditions are available. A special version of the Semiflex Compact Plus with internal clamping sets solves this task.

Couplings for processing metal pipes

Axial forces in a metalworking plant

The design makes the Loewe suitable GK of the "Torque" series for applications where axial forces occur in addition to a torque. The coupling system ensures a recording of axial tensile and compressive forces without length change. The coupling combines the kinematic properties of a universal joint with those of a cross slide clutch. Depending on the size, the axially fixed couplings compensate for parallel displacements up to 2,5 mm, angular displacements up to 3 °. For a non-positive shaft connection, the couplings are equipped with clamping hubs as standard and cover a bore diameter range up to 50 mm.

The series covers an outside diameter range from 27 to 100 mm. Depending on the size of the coupling, the drive elements made of aluminum offer a nominal torque transmission capacity from 4 to 220 Nm. The Loewe GK of the Torque series in size 75 was used in a plant in the field of metalworking. This 74,5 mm outside diameter axial rigid coupling has a nominal torque transfer capacity of 90 Nm and has a maximum radial displacement capacity of 2 mm, angular of 3 °. In the application, an axially limited installation space was available, so that the series clutch with an 83 mm length already compact clutch had to be additionally modified. The coupling was equipped with shortened clamping hubs.
