Water-tightness test of battery housings according to IP67

Inficon shows how watertightness according to protection class IP67 can be guaranteed for components. In the automotive industry, for example, protection class IP67 plays a decisive role in the production of housings for modern drive batteries: The ingress of water and the associated short circuits and fires must be avoided at all costs.
A specially designed IP67 demonstrator reveals drop rates and leak rates. Using various capillaries, the demonstrator simulates how many drops of water penetrate at a certain pressure through leakage channels of different diameters. In addition to the diameter and length of a leak channel, the housing material is also a decisive factor, because water drops dissolve much more easily, for example, from aluminum than from steel or ABS.
