reprap0912With the 3D printer kit "Protos" the German Reprap offers a 3D printer based on the open source technology Reprap. Engineering and design departments can use it to create the first prototypes in-house and bring the shorter development time their products to market faster.

Previously, it was to have them printed because of the high investment for the purchase of a printer 3D usually more economical prototypes of external service providers. With the open source technology Reprap design departments can print prototypes as housing itself. Depending on the complexity of the models, the prototypes are usually printed in a few hours. Thus, several versions of the prototype are possible to improve the product interactively.

The Protos 3D printer can be set up quickly and easily. He is to meet the needs of development facilities tailored to need a slightly extensible and flexible printer. So the printer can handle, for example, a wide range of materials, such as ABS, PLA, HDPE, LDPE, PP and PE plastics. The wide range of 0,3 to 0,5 mm nozzle to 0,1 mm thin plastic layers can be printed in the enamel layer process. This allows fine prototypes that the accuracy of the high-resolution SLS method (selective laser sintering) is very similar. Which was developed by the GRRF modular hot-end allows the extruder nozzle change very easily. The printer processes 3 mm and the standard industry 1,75 mm plastic wires.

Protos has a pressure range of approximately x 220 220 130 x mm in X/Y/Z- axis. The speed depends on the extruder and is up to 180 mm / s The units are designed stable. All axes are equipped with closed linear bearings which guarantee a play-free operation and easy to control. The laser sintered molded parts are made of polyamide (PA) and in highly durable and accurate.

To print a prototype satisfies a simple STL file that can be generated by all popular CAD programs.
