One of Messer's flagship projects is currently the "Multitherm" system, which, in addition to cutting sheet metal, includes the integration of an additional device to cut unalloyed steel strip to the specifications of manufacturers in the construction sector. Nine sheet metal strips can be processed at the same time, parts of metal structures in different sizes can be created and all this automated and user-friendly.

Igus30918 The system also allows plasma cutting (straight or beveled), oxy-fuel cutting with different burners, marking work or the combination of all these operations with side-by-side longitudinal units to guarantee the highest quality cuts. What is special about the Multitherm series is that, according to the manufacturer, "it costs nine times less than other conventional machines on the market and produces nine times more."

The Multitherm range can accommodate eleven cutters/torches: ten at the front and one at the rear. In order to be able to safely accommodate the lines and hoses of all recordings in the smallest of spaces, the energy supply was of particular importance. For this purpose, the technicians at Messer in Brazil, together with the team from the motion plastics specialist igus, developed a design in which the e-chains were installed one inside the other in their own radii.

This reduces the space required and guides the lines and hoses safely. E-chains of the 3500 series with a bending radius of 150 mm and 250 mm are used here. An autoglide system guarantees that the chains slide straight over each other. The chain basically guides itself through special comb-like opening bars, which means that there is no need for an additional guide channel.

Accurate and durable in any environment

They are individually designed for use in a variety of applications to defy the specific adversities - be it in shipbuilding, steel mills or heavy industry. The systems are designed to work without interruption and failure in dirty and abrasive environments. Today, Messer systems have been in use for more than 15 years without technical failures or line breaks occurring there. "We are prepared for the worst environmental conditions," explains Maxwell Santos, CTO at Messer.

Energy chain systems from Igus are made of high-performance polymers and can withstand the aggressive environmental conditions without any problems: In systems at shipyards and near the sea, they are corrosion-resistant; in foundries near furnaces, they withstand very high temperatures and even hot chips down to -850 ° C; in steel works and smelting works, they are insensitive to dirt and chip-proof.

In addition, according to Maxwell Santos of Messer one of the special technical and economic advantages of the products from Cologne, the cost savings: "The energy chains cost basically half, since they last twice as long," explains the Technical Director. "In the long term, these knife energy chains are the most economical solution because they are maintenance-free and their long life leads to cost savings and greater productivity gains for their customers."
