Manufacturing-X: Data room for Industry 4.0

04.06.2023 | With the "Manufacturing-X" initiative, the makers of the Industry 4.0 platform at Pepperl+Fuchs have set themselves the goal of creating a cross-company and cross-industry, sovereign data space made to the task. This is intended to bring multilateral cooperation along supply chains and digital value-added processes to a new level.

With its contribution to the reference architecture model Industry 4.0 (RAMI) helped shape the understanding of Industry 4.0. With its subsidiary Neoception, the experts showed at the Hanover Fair how the next evolutionary step for e.g. B. Due to the cooperative nature of the live demo, it can be experienced on the exhibition stands of all three companies, with additional insights into the contribution of the individual project participants.

IT bridge between shop floor and office floor

As a Edge Computing-The flexible Embedded Box PC 5000 from Dell is used as the basis for the exchange of information between the shop floor and office floor. This compact and energy-efficient industrial PC can be adjusted so that the performance corresponds exactly to the actual application requirements.

Thanks to its robust design, it can also be used in process-related environments, such as on the depaneling machine, without any problems. Software AG and the Pepperl+Fuchs subsidiary Neoception, which specializes in the development of IIoT applications, are equipping the Embedded Box PC 5000 here with the required software agents and Cumulocity Cloud Gatewayto communication between fieldbus, IO-Link devices and IoT cloud.

Harness data potentials

The cloud-based platform Cumulocity IoT of Software AG is the destination of the data in the application shown. In this solution, process and status data are analyzed and interpreted across locations in order to make new potential accessible to users.

Inductive sensor detects carbon for the first time in the world

With the edge solution shown here, data processing takes place at the edge of the network in a resource-saving manner - only the data relevant to the application is forwarded. The range of use cases includes real-time condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, as well as production process optimization and field service management.

IO-Link components as enablers

Pepperl+Fuchs controls various components from its Sensors 4.0portfolio for factory automation. Optical sensors from the modular R10x series are used to position the milling head, while an inductive position measuring system from the PMI-F90 series is used to control the Stepper motor unterstützt.
