With the new "Sirius 3RW55 Failsafe" and "Sirius 3RW50" soft starters, Siemens Smart Infrastructure is expanding its portfolio for smooth motor starting. The Sirius 3RW55 Failsafe are the first soft starters with an integrated Safe Torque Off (STO) function. The Sirius 3RW50 devices are compact and have minimal power loss.
With the Sirius 3RW55 Failsafe, the normatively prescribed safety function for electrical drive systems ensures that no torque-generating energy can take effect when the motors are switched off. In this way, it prevents unwanted overrun. switch cabinetBuilders no longer have to install the function using separate individual components, which saves money wirings and maintenance costs as well as space in the control cabinet. In addition, the switching time of the integrated solution is significantly shorter than with conventional, electromechanical components.
The Sirius 3RW55 Failsafe are suitable for starting and stopping processes with powerful motors with a rated power of 5,5 to 560 kW at 400 V. Via the integrated human-machine interface (HMI), all switching processes can be controlled easily and in a user-friendly manner. Optional communication modules enable functional expansions as required.
Soft starter for simple applications
The Sirius 3RW50 cover a power range from 75 to 315 kW at 400 V and are designed for simple standard applications. Optional communication modules provide additional functions. Thanks to the integrated soft-torque function, current peaks during startup are avoided and the mechanical load when starting and stopping motors is reduced. This makes the soft starters ideal for switching on pumps by preventing pressure spikes in the piping system and thus damage due to water hammer. They are certified to ATEX and IECEx.
