With the new Linear gantry robot "LGR-3" offers Fibro Läpple a modular system for loading and unloading machines as well as for handling workpieces. This allows a wide variety of customer requirements to be implemented flexibly. In the electrical design of the portal, the company uses to secure the Vertical axis on electromagnetic brakes "Roba-linearstop" from Mayr Antriebstechnik.

Whether for loading and unloading Machine Tools or Machining centers, for the transfer of parts or the transport of devices, tools or processing systems: The new modular axis and portal kit from Fibro Läpple Technology GmbH (FLT) is designed for use in a wide range of industrial applications.

"The special thing about FLT is that we manufacture automation solutions for a wide variety of industries and for all processing and handling processes," explains Boris Bind, Head of Mechanical Design + Development at FLT in Hassmersheim. "With our modular concept, we can respond flexibly to customer requirements."

Electromagnetic brakes secure people and machines

Mayr vertical axisOne part of the proven modular system is the new one Linear gantry robot LGR-3 for machine assembly and handling of workpieces. "With the portal robot, we can automate individual process cells," Bind describes the area of application. “The advantage with the construction as a portal is that it is set up above the machine tool. This leaves access to the machine and the work area free - unlike a classic robot that takes up space.

Depending on the design and construction, the variant as Area portal robot larger work areas can also be spanned. The portal may therefore also run over areas where people are, ”explains Bind. “The linear brake in the vertical axis reliably prevents the axis from sagging and injuring people. The portal is therefore also secure for these applications. "

In the electrical version of the linear gantry robot, FLT relies on the electromagnetic Roba-linearstop Safety brakes from Mayr Antriebstechnik, the specialist for clutches and brakes from Mauerstetten in the Allgäu. At Power failure or emergency stop the brake reliably holds the axis in any position. It works according to the fail-safe principle, which means that it is closed when de-energized. The braking effect is generated by compression springs.

Backlash-free power transmission

They can be used as a compact brake unit electromagnetic braken easy, quick and without time-consuming adjustment work can also be integrated into existing machine and system designs. It acts on a separate brake rod. If the brake closes, the rod is kept free of play.

The Roba-linearstop works without self-reinforcing wedge effect and thus acts in both directions of movement. Due to the force generation without self-reinforcing wedge effect together with very short reaction times, the axis does not sag when closing.

Mayr electromagnetic brake

Other linear braking systems using self-reinforcing wedge effect work, generate a high braking force. However, the wedge effect only works in one direction and to generate the wedge effect the brake has to “adjust” when closing. If the wedge effect of the brake is not limited, the braking force increases indefinitely. The machine construction has to absorb this shock. In addition, the clamp for releasing the brake often has to be released with enormous force. However, this is not necessary with the Roba-linearstop.

“It is important for us that the peak load that occurs when braking is not too great,” adds Boris Bind. “We need one constant force curve when braking, the console can be smaller. In addition, the brake has to be compact because there is little space overall. "

Proven quality with 100 percent traceability

electromagnetic brakesThe ones available on the market today linear brakes mostly act as static clamping units and are designed to hold the axes at a standstill. However, people can also be under suspended loads during commissioning, maintenance or even during the production process without the load being transferred to the mechanical linear brake beforehand. If in these operating states a Complete failure of the drive, the linear brake is for that alone safe deceleration of the load responsible.

That is why the Roba-linearstop safety brakes are what it takes electromagnetic as well as pneumatic or hydraulic design there are more than just clamping units. They are designed in such a way that they hold the load safely and are also suitable for emergency braking.

Before a brake leaves the Mayr plant, it is required force with appropriate security set. This value is checked and documented and is therefore clearly assigned to each serial number. To make this possible, the company has a wide range of modern testing options and can fall back on decades of experience in development and construction. The electronic database, in which the measured values are archived together with the associated serial numbers of the product, ensures 100% traceability.
