The Kick Off for the Changes Award 2021 took place on January 26th. In addition to interesting information about the course of the competition and valuable tips on how best to present yourself and your idea, the students received interesting information. But the real highlight of the day was getting to know their personal coaches. They accompany the teams through the competition and support them in creating their business plan.

So basically everything as with every previous kick-off of the business plan competition for Q1 students from Ratingen, Düsseldorf and the surrounding area. With one difference: the participants sat in front of their laptops, tablets or smartphones and took part in the virtual event via Microsoft Teams.
“The first digital Changes Award has started successfully. We are thrilled at how quickly the young people switched to working digitally and that so many have applied to take part in the competition. This year groups from Ratingen, Düsseldorf Heiligenhaus, Essen and Krefeld will be there, ”says Wolfgang Kueppers, first chairman of the Friends and Patrons of the Industrial Museum.
It was difficult to imagine a year ago, but today it was a matter of course: dialing into the video conference, automatically muting presentations and raising hands digitally for questions. The students knew exactly how it worked.
Even group photos of the participants were taken: thanks to the "Together" function in MS Teams, the participants have access to a virtual lecture room Photo Shoot Seated.

Now the teams start into the project phase and start working out their business plans. The next meetings with the coaches are already planned - digitally, of course.

In competition, the students develop skills such as strategic thinking, teamwork, research and presentation skills. Such skills also have an impact on their school development.
The winning team will travel to the Japanese with their supervising teacher Capital Tokyo. The school receives a cash prize worth EUR 1500. The winning teams in places 2 and 3 each receive one Technology voucher worth EUR 1000 or EUR 500. The schools receive a cash prize worth EUR 1000 or EUR 500.
