Computed tomography has long been limited to smaller and more easily penetrated objects due to the limited power of X-ray sources (450 keV beam energy). The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS has now succeeded in removing these restrictions. With the development of a computer tomograph with a linear accelerator as X-ray source with 9 MeV and a correspondingly dimensioned X-ray camera, they have opened up completely new application areas for computed tomography.
