Baumer builds Innovation Center in Switzerland
29.03.2022: The Baumer Group, which specializes in smart sensor solutions for factory and process automation, is installing for 20 million Swiss francs modern development center at the headquarters in Frauenfeld, CH. This makes the innovation center the second largest investment in innovation in recent years, after the high-tech center that opened in 2018 in Stockach in southern Germany.

"The new building enables us to expand the development capacities at the headquarters in order to expand our position as a driver of innovation," says dr Oliver Vietze, CEO of the Baumer Group at the groundbreaking ceremony on March 29, 2022. The new building will offer the expanding high-tech company 5000 m² of additional, state-of-the-art office space for around 120 employees. For decades, the company's headquarters have had an ideal location between the renowned ETH Zurich, the University of Excellence in Konstanz and excellent universities of applied sciences in Eastern Switzerland. "We are expanding this attractive location and the teams should move in here in late summer 2023."
Energy efficient through facade and geothermal energy
With the energy concept, the sensor specialist is taking another step in the right direction CO2 neutrality. "The Innovation Center should become a showcase project, especially in terms of sustainability and energy efficiency," says Dr. Vietze. A complete solar building shell will generate electricity. Geothermal probes and a heat pump heat the interior in winter and cool it in summer. This ensures optimal working conditions. In addition, the company only uses CO as part of its "Baumer Blue" sustainability initiative2 neutral electricity from Swiss hydropower. This also ensures a clean energy supply at the Frauenfeld site.
Plant opened in North Macedonia
31.10.2019: Today Baumer has the newly built Branch in North Macedonia opened near Skopje. After a construction period of just nine months, the sensor specialist is strengthening its position on the European market with the new location. The Skopje region offers a highly qualified staff and allows fast delivery to customers all over Europe.
The employees of the new branch find the best working conditions, modern Technical Building Services, quiet workplaces and a canteen. In the first development phase, the focus is on production and production engineering as well as CNC specialists. After that, a product development team with hardware and software engineers as well as IT specialists will be set up. The start took place with local experienced employees. In the future, motivated young engineers and skilled workers will be trained.

The new plant offers a production area of 19.000 m² and a development and administration area of 2500 m² on a plot area of 600 m². This leaves enough space for future growth is available for storage, management and analysis.

"With the Smart Reflect technology, Baumer has developed an innovative solution for a wide variety of industrial applications, which meets the requirements for a robust and safe light barrier without the disadvantages of the conventional sensors available on the market," says Emil Lazarski, Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan.
With the Smart Reflect light barriers, the beam of light - in contrast to a reflective or one-way light barrier - between the sensor and e.g. B. built a machine part. An object interrupts the light beam and causes the sensor to switch. The only requirement is that there is a background, such as any machine part, in the detection area of the sensor. This makes the separate reflector superfluous and eliminates a common weak point. Special Smart Reflect variants use the same principle to detect transparent objects such as bottles, bowls or even foils.
