zwick0316At the end of June, the testing machine manufacturer Zwick Roell and the aid organization Don Bosco Mondo e. V. opens the Zwick Roell Training Academy in Chennai, India. As part of a one-year apprenticeship, disadvantaged young people are trained here to become testing machine operators in order to facilitate their entry into professional life and thus give them the chance for a better future.    

At the Don Bosco Tech Campus, in the middle of one of the poorest district in Chennai, Roell Training Academy disadvantaged young people are trained to testing machine operators from summer 2016 in Zwick. Zwick Roell has here rented an empty hall, renovated and equipped with modern materials testing machines. These include not only various static testing machines and hardness testers, a pendulum impact tester and a melt index tester. Two employees for training trainers qualify annually between six and twelve young people to operators of materials testing machines. One focus of the training is paid to the metal and plastics testing. In addition, the laboratory of Zwick Roell is also used for customer demonstrations and order tests.

“Our project for them Materials testing in Chennai is intended to help young people who have difficulty accessing good training to learn an attractive job and, based on this, to take life into their own hands. India is a fascinating country – we benefit from Indian customers and with this project we would like to contribute to improving education in India,” explains Dr. Jan Stefan Roell, Chairman of the Board of Zwick Roell AG, the reasons for the commitment.
