Handling of miniature components and micro-assembly

Palletizing systems must provide raw parts, semi-finished products or components in an oriented manner, and be able to feed and remove them carefully, in an orderly manner and in a predetermined position from the assembly area or the machine. The various palletizers from IEF-Werner are designed precisely for these tasks. With their open and modular design, they ensure more individuality for the user. The “Smallstack” series palletizer is a new development - for handling miniature components or for micro-assembly.
In modern assembly systems an orderly and careful handover of the workpieces is important in addition to the timely delivery - especially if they have to be fed via conveyor belts or removed from there. In particular, high demands are placed on palletizing systems. For example, they must be able to handle staggered pallets or sensitive parts and have various automation functions. With six palletizers for different pallet sizes and weights as well as with different degrees of automation, the black forestry automation and handling specialist IEF Werner based in Furtwangen offers many variants to adapt the product handling to the respective operational conditions.
Palletizing system Variostack
One of the six variants is the "Variostack" palletizing system. Its modular design makes it easy to adapt to different applications. There are two loading options for this machine: either a front loader or a front or side loader. With the Variostack pallets can be taken up to a size of 400 x 600 x 150 mm (W x L x H) and a maximum pallet weight of 10 kg. The pallet replacement time for this system is 6 s. The most widely used palletizer from IEF is the PSU. The system has similar frame data as the Variostack but can accept pallets up to a weight of 30 kg. It is particularly suitable for applications in which the palletizer is to be filled via a trolley or a belt system. The stacking and unstacking via trolley whereby the stack change without clock interruption is possible.
Palletizing system PSM
The PSM palletizing system is characterized by its small overall width. Therefore it can be used on assembly lines and on Scara robot to be grown. The maximum pallet size is 400 x 600 x 80 mm, the maximum pallet stack weight is 100 kg. Heavy stacks of pallets can also be easily handled with the PSM using pallet trucks. With this variant, the pallet change takes only 4 seconds, the stacks can be filled and removed at any time without interrupting the cycle time.
The PSO palletizing system is very suitable for applications in which permanent parts availability is essential, as it does not take up any time to change pallets. A great advantage of this variant is, for example, that it is possible to process pallets with customer-specific dimensions, which are also protected by the flat pallet support. With this system, too, the stacks can be filled or removed at any time.
Palletizing system Eurostack
The Eurostack is the right system for palletizing trays that have to be provided on Euro pallets. The loading can take place without interruption during operation, the loading and unloading of the workpiece carrier is done via an integrated product handling. It is used, for example, in the automotive, electrical, plastics and pharmaceutical industries. The maximum pallet weight is 40 kg, the stacking height is 1500 mm. The pallet change time of this system is 5 s, the cycle time for product handling is 3 s.
The advantage is that the Eurostack can be integrated into both new and existing systems and offers maximum protection for product and pallet handling thanks to separate safety areas. A direct workflow is also created for the Euro pallet. The maximum handling weight – of product and gripper – is five kg with a spindle drive, 3 kg with a toothed belt drive and 1 kg with a continuous drive. Depending on requirements, the user receives the system as a clean room or ESD version. If desired, the pallets can be fed in automatically via a conveyor belt.
Palletizing system Smalltack
New in the portfolio of the manufacturer is the palletizer Smalltack. With this even small pallets can be handled safely and gently - and even with high quantities. The orderly supply of sensitive and small parts, which is becoming increasingly important in the manufacturing industry, can be perfectly solved by the new IEF palletizing system. In this system, the pallets are separated from a feed stack, provided for loading or unloading, and stacked again. The loading and unloading of the pallets is always done manually. The Smallstack can handle pallets of various materials up to 360 x 240 mm. It is particularly suitable for micro-assembly, desktop factory applications, assembly systems and miniature components. An advantage is that it can be easily adapted to processing plants.
All palletizing systems are designed for flexible factory automation. They have various facilities and additional equipment that enable trouble-free, automatic processing of pallet stacks and the incorporation of additional operations. These include, for example, the crash protection of the Z axis, palletizing with controlled joining and automatic gripper change. The pallets are provided without additional time and staggered pallets can be unstacked.
