The Fraunhofer IPA shows the potentials of Big-Data Analytics for production optimization. The "Smart system optimization" analyzer tool detects errors in production processes. Cameras record the relevant process characteristics in linked systems. On this basis, the application determines the most important sources of error and their causes.
Key technologies are adapted algorithms, which have been specially developed for the analysis of fast-clocking piece goods production lines. Since the beginning of 2017, the scientists have expanded the tool with a high-performance connector which, in addition to the intelligent additional sensors such as smart cameras, can additionally extract large amounts of data from conventional machine controls. So far, machine control systems from Beckhoff, the Siemens S7 series and the Mitsubishi Q series have been developed and applied in industrial contexts. At Schott Schweiz AG, the experts used the methodology to optimize a highly automated production system for the production of syringes and to increase the OEE by about 10%.
